About General Motors

General Motors Company is involved in the production and sale of automobiles and trucks across various countries, including the United States, China, Brazil, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Italy. Their product lineup encompasses a wide range of vehicles, such as sedans, crossovers, SUVs, pickup trucks, coupes, sports cars, convertibles, hybrids, hatchbacks, wagons, and vans, including compact cars in India. Additionally, the company offers a variety of parts and accessories, including iPod and MP3 compatibility, mobility accessories, performance components, air conditioning parts and services, and merchandise. They also provide services related to vehicle safety, security, and information. General Motors Company also deals in used vehicles, making its products available through a network of dealers and distributors. The company was originally known as NGMCO, Inc. but adopted the name General Motors Company in July 2009. It was established in 2009 and is headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, with manufacturing facilities in India, the United States, and Canada. As of now, General Motors Company operates as a subsidiary of the United States Department of The Treasury. General Motors achieved a remarkable milestone by leading global vehicle sales continuously for 77 years, starting from 1931 and extending through 2007, which is a longer streak than any other automaker has accomplished. Currently, it ranks among the world's largest automakers in terms of vehicle unit sales. While General Motors maintains wholly-owned subsidiaries in most countries outside the USA, its operations in China are facilitated through 10 joint ventures. The company's subsidiary, OnStar, specializes in providing vehicle safety, security, and information services. In 2009, General Motors underwent significant changes, including the discontinuation of several brands such as Saturn, Pontiac, and Hummer. It emerged from a government-supported Chapter 11 reorganization during that period. In 2010, GM conducted successful initial public offerings (IPOs) and returned to profitability later in the same year.
